Our History

2020 marked 30 years for Hotgas serving the Sunshine Coast and we are proud of how far we have come to be a large, family owned Sunshine Coast LPG supplier

1990

John Arnold was strawberry farming at Carters Ridge

Supplying a few cylinders for neighbours locally as a sub-agent for Matthews Gas in Nambour.
The business commenced as Cooroy & Hinterland Gas serving the local Cooroy and Mary Valley areas.

1995

There was more gas being sold…

…than strawberries being picked, so a decision to get serious about LPG was made.
A new name was needed to appeal to customers in a wider area and Red-E-Gas was born!

The move to Yandina

After the purchase of a commercial block in 2004, operations moved from Carters Ridge to Yandina between 2005 and 2007. Starting with the cylinders and delivery team then slowly migrating the office across a few years later, the new location provided a more central base and room to grow.

2010

John and Jan Arnold launched a new brand

Hotgas was born: initially specialising in 8.5kg ‘Drop & Swap’ BBQ cylinders.
The sister brand to Red-E-Gas ran parallel and provided our customers a competitive service for a
niche market.

2015

Red-E-Gas & Hotgas joined forces

The merger marked a transition to one company under the banner of Hotgas, simplifying things for both customers and the team while strengthening the position within the region.  The move brought the organisation a step closer to achieving the goal of becoming the leading supplier of LPG on the Sunshine Coast – by providing the best services and value to our residential and commercial customers.

The Business of Family

After nearly 30 years of operation, 2019 saw John & Jan’s daughter, Shannon join the team full-time. Shannon intends to continue the family legacy as John and Jan took a step back to slow down, happy to leave it to the more youthful and energetic!

The Baby Bullet

With the growth of the business and the impacts of COVID-19, floods, shipping delays and other environmental factors, a second bulk tank was installed at our depot to increase capacity and reliability for our gas supply.

Today

A growing team!

Today, we employ a total of 17 local people including our established team members, Des (Operations Manager) who started with us in 2001, Peter (Team Supervisor) joining us in 2005 and Tania (Customer Service Supervisor) in 2007.

We now have a large LPG depot at Yandina with a fleet of 11 modern vehicles. Not bad for an old strawberry farmer!

From the start John held important values of honesty, excellent customer service, reliable and timely delivery and competitive prices. The business has grown from strength to strength based on these basic values, which obviously appeal to our thousands of Sunshine Coast customers.

Our Local Employees

We employ 100% Sunshine Coast local staff – some team members who have been with us for over 20 years each!
